Allied Golf Association Update – Executive Order
April 1, 2020
Golf Industry Professionals and Golfers,
We wanted to reach out to provide you another update relative to the status of golf through the extended duration of Governor Pritzker’s “Stay at Home” Executive Order.
The allied associations have been in continued direct contact with the Governor’s staff and were told yesterday that there is no possibility of reopening golf courses prior to the April 30 extension date.
In simplest terms, the decision to close golf courses was made in an effort to protect the health and safety of the golfing community, from daily fee golfers to private club members to facility staff. Ultimately, the Executive Order mandates that citizens of the state “Stay at Home”, and exceptions to the law will not be considered out of respect and concern for the citizens of our state.
As cases of COVID-19 grow throughout the state, the Governor’s top priority is stemming the spread of the virus that threatens to overwhelm state hospitals, healthcare workers and first responders. The leaders of the allied golf associations of Illinois respect the decision of the Governor’s Office and understand the gravity of the public health crisis we are facing.
At this time, the allied associations will shift their efforts from advocating for golf courses to reopen to assisting our constituents in getting through these difficult times. We will continue to work with the Governor’s Office to ensure that golf is one of the first sanctioned activities allowed once the Executive Order is lifted.
The conversation with the Governor’s staff was a sobering one. As the number of confirmed cases and resulting deaths from the virus continue to grow, our collective wish is for the health and safety of our constituents and their loved ones as we move through these unprecedented times.
Our coalition of Golf Associations in Illinois will continue to monitor the situation and stay in communication with the Governor’s Office. We will continue to provide you with updates as necessary.
