The North Suburban Junior Travel League (NSJTL) was created to give junior golfers an opportunity to participate in a friendly developmental program in preparation for the competition of high school golf. The league consists of teams from eight local park districts, and each team is encouraged to provide a fun learning experience for junior golfers, as well as some good competition. Instructional components will give the golfers an opportunity to improve their fundamentals and competitive golf skills. Competition begins in early June (Mondays at 12pm) and ends with a League Championship in mid-August. Golfers will be responsible for transportation to each event, though Sportsman's will help coordinate car pools. Eligibility for league participation is open for boys and girls 5th through 8th grade. Securing a place on the team includes some excellent privileges, including specific playing and learning opportunities at Anetsberger Golf Course and Sportsman's Country Club, and golf instruction from the Northbrook Golf Academy. This season, Anetsberger and Sportsman's will each host a team. While the team representing Sportsman's is currently filled with participants from past seasons, in an effort to accommodate more young golfers, Anetsberger Golf Course will also field a team. Any junior interested in tryouts must have completed Phase I (Par Player) of the Junior Development Program, and must be enrolled in Phase II (Birdie Player-Silver). All Travel Team players will be required to enroll in at least one session of the Junior Development Program each season to maintain their active status on the team. Tryouts for the Anetsberger Travel Team will be held at Anetsberger G.C. on Saturday, May 24th at 8am. The tryout fee is $25, and the registration deadline is Wednesday, May 21st at 6pm. Tryout forms are available at Sportsman's Golf Shop, Anetsberger Golf Shop, Competition is open to both resident and nonresident players. In addition to all green fees for the competitive rounds, all team members receive (1) large bucket per day at Sportsman's range, (3) “free” rounds at Anetsberger G.C., (2) ‘free” rounds at Sportsman's East 9, a team cap and shirt, and weekly practices.
