Northbrook Golf Academy Junior Instruction Programs Print E-mail
We are excited to tell you that all of our Northbrook Golf Academy instruction programs have been significantly modified and enhanced for the 2010 season. 
 

2010 Junior Golf Group Instruction
The Northbrook Golf Academy helps children learn to play and love the sport of golf. The game teaches honesty, dignity, respect and sportsmanship and can have positive, lasting effects on bill teach jrs. (300 x 225).jpgchildren. Group instruction clinics focus on golf fundamentals and tailor instruction in the areas where students need the most help.


Future Stars Golf (Level 1), Grades K-3
Introduce children to the game of golf with basic instruction on putting, chipping and the full swing. They'll enjoy seeing how far and how high they can send the ball. Students learn their way around a golf course and the rules and etiquette required to play. The first class meets at the North end of Sportsman's Practice Range. The final class meets at Anetsberger to play one or two holes on the course.  Students receive one additional free round at Sportsman's mini golf course.

Future Stars Golf (Level 2), Grades K-3 (NEW)

Children play and practice at Anetsberger Golf Course and the Sportsman's Practice Range to reinforce the skills and fundamentals learned from the pros in Level 1. The key to future development is continuing to build and develop the full swing and short game skills. Students play on the course with supervision two or three times and receive an additional free round at Anetsberger. The first class meets at the North end of Sportsman's Practice Range.

Sportsman's Mini Golf Summer League (NEW)

Sportsman's Mini Golf Course is launching a summer league to keep golf fun and simple. Children play for an hour two mornings each week for nine weeks. The league includes stroke play, best ball and match play games, and a season-ending ice cream party. Tee times are pre-booked in succession starting at 10:30am, and available on a first come, first-served weekly basis. Registration is available at Sportsman's Practice Range starting May 1. Sign up with friends or be placed with a group, maximum of five kids per group.

Sportsman's Mini Golf Fall League (NEW)

Children can sign up with friends or alone to enjoy seven weeks of mini golf on Sunday mornings. The Fall League includes stroke play, best ball and match play games. During October, the course is transformed into a Spooktacular setting with Halloween decorations.  The league concludes with a Halloween Costume Party.   Tee times are pre-booked in succession starting at 11am, and available on a first come, first-served weekly basis. Registration is available at Sportsman's Practice Range starting August 1. Sign up with friends or be placed with a group, maximum of five kids per group.

The Northbrook Golf Academy Junior Golf Development Program
The Junior Golf Development Program focuses on skills development and individual progression through four levels, with objective testing to measure improvement.  Children begin with the basics of golf, learn how to use their skills on the Practice Range and on the course, and continue to develop skills as they advance through the program.  Instruction covers the full swing, chipping, pitching, bunker play, putting, rules and etiquette. Graduates of the program will be able to play golf for recreation, competition, or future business activities.

Phase 1: Par Player, Grades 3-6
This class focuses on understanding the game and preparing to play responsibly on the golf course.  Students learn the basic skills of the short game and full swing, along with rules and etiquette. Students receive one additional free round at Anetsberger Golf Course.  The first session meets at the Sportsman's Clubhouse. New this year: two classes offer lessons three times per week for two weeks.

Children must complete this class to participate in Anetsberger Junior Golf Leagues.

Phase 2: Birdie Player, Grades 3-8

Students continue to develop skills learned in the Par Course.  Instruction focuses on the key elements of posture, grip, aim, alignment, ball position, pre-shot routine, and the in-swing fundamentals required for driving, iron shots, chipping and putting.  On-course coaching helps children transition their skills from the practice tee to the course.  Students receive one additional free round at Anetsberger Golf Course. The first session meets at the North end of Sportsman's Practice Range.  New this year: two classes offer lessons three times per week for two weeks.

Children must complete this class to participate in the Sportsman's East 9 Summer Junior Golf League.

Phase 3: Eagle Player, Grades 4-8 (NEW)
Expectations increase as students refine their full swing and short game skills and become more engaged in playing the game at a higher level. On-course play and coaching are key elements with the goal of working towards shooting lower scores. Coaches and players focus on course management, club selection and choosing proper targets. Practices consist of individual and group skills competitions to increase performance during playing situations. Students receive one additional free round at Sportsman's East 9 Golf Course. The first session meets at the Anetsberger Golf Course Clubhouse. Students have an option of attending classes three times per week. 

Children must complete this class to participate in the Sportsman's Classic 18 Summer Junior Golf League.

Phase 4: Tour Player, Grades 5-8 (NEW)

This is the final level required for a child to be recognized as a Northbrook Golf Academy Junior Pro.  Players completing this level should be able to break 100. They will be eligible to play in our East 9 Junior League, 18 hole Junior League and Travel Teams and will be well on the way to playing a high level of competitive or recreational golf.  The curriculum involves intensive full swing, short game and continued on-course coaching.  Practices focus on individual and group skills competitions to increase performance during playing situations.  Students will enjoy playing on the Anetsberger, East 9 and Sportsman's 18-hole Classic Course while developing their skills and shot-making.  Players receive an assessment of their strengths and weaknesses and receive one additional free round at Sportsman's 18-hole Classic Course. The first session meets at the entrance to the Sportsman's Clubhouse.

Private Golf Lessons
Private or semi-private lessons from our PGA Instructors are another great way to help children improve their game and enjoyment of golf. PGA golf instruction is available daily.
