First Assistant Golf Professional Golf Academy Teaching Professional  John joined the Sportsman's Professional Staff in the spring of 2004 after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Illinois University. Aside from earning academic achievement at Western, John Enjoyed 4 successful years of NCAA Division-1A golf. His playing credentials include "1st Team All-Conference" honors as well being named the "Mid-Continent Conference Newcomer of the Year" in 2002. John was also recognized by Coach Mel Blasi with a Senior Leadership award for his efforts in 2004. He is very proud of his association with the Western Illinois golf program, and has built upon that experience by participating in IPGA Section Events. Since turning professional, John's competitive career has been highlighted by a win at Medinah C.C., as well as selection to the IPGA Royal Cup Team in 2008.
Before joining the staff at Sportsman's, John worked several years of seasonal employment at Bittersweet G.C. in Gurnee, IL. His experience at Bittersweet included both golf shop and driving range supervision, along with guest-services and outing operations. Now in his 6th year at Sportsman's C.C., John feels he has found a great home to further his development as a PGA Golf Professional.
As a lead instructor with the Northbrook Golf Academy, John has been involved in private golf instruction, group clinics, and the development of Junior Golf programs. John is a Class-A PGA Member, with Professional Certification in Instruction. His expertise of the game, paired with experience as both an instructor and a player, significantly aids students in reaching their goals.
Teaching Approach:
"The true measure of performance in the game of golf is your score. With that in mind, my player-development program places a strong emphasis on the skills associated with the short game. Investing your time and effort into the proper fundamentals of putting, chipping, and pitching will allow you to see results on the scorecard, and enjoy your day on the golf course. My swing philosophy follows the principals of proper swing plane. My goal is to build a swing that fits each individual, maximizing efficiency and consistency. My job is not to tell you how to swing, but to teach you the cause and effect of the motions you make in a golf swing. Through my coaching, and your dedication, we will work together to reach your true golf potential."
