Supervisor, Sportsman's Practice Range & Mini Golf![]() Director of Instruction, Northbrook Golf Academy Beginning his golf career as a caddie at the age of 9 for the Skokie Country Club, Stan has evolved into one of the finest and most respected golf instructors on the North Shore. Stan graduated high school from Highland Park in 1965 and then college from California State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974. After graduating he first served as an Assistant Golf Professional at Ravinia Green before taking a Head Golf Professional position at Summer Tree Country Club in Crown Point, Indiana. While working there he played at nearby Oak Knoll Golf Club where he set, and still holds, the course record by shooting a score of 64 for the day, which included a 29 on the front nine. Stan later came to Sportsman's Country Club and served as Head Golf Professional before accepting his present position at the Practice Facility and Northbrook Golf Academy. Stan believes that the golf swing, like any other sport, is based on simple fundamentals such as balance, weight shift and follow through. His teaching philosophy is predicated upon developing a proper grip, good posture and the correct target alignment as pre-swing fundamentals. From this point, Stan encourages constructive practice to improve and build a repeating swing. Remembering a quote from the late Ben Hogan, Stan believes that “Every day you missing practicing, takes you one day longer to be good”. Married for 20 years, Stan resides with his wife Ruth, daughter Annie and son Matthew in Grayslake, IL. Stan also has a son, Anthony, who works and lives in Wisconsin. Stan can be reached in his Sportsman's office at (847) 291.2351, extension 135 and at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
